This 3-hour workshop is designed to bring greater awareness to dancers about the structural dynamics of movement. Instructor will discuss human body mechanics, as well as how to apply movement techniques to produce smooth, fluid, and rhythmic body action. Participants will leave with deeper understanding about how to sustain quality dance movement, in any style.

 

In this workshop, you will:

  • Understand how rhythm is created in the body and how our bodies work to build rhythms, in terms of musculature and structure.
  • Identify and control dance steps and apply specific timings in music.
  • Learn how a dancer turns, makes rotations, and produces action in 3-step turns, triple steps, and pivot turns.
  • Apply the principles of movement dynamics to your dancing to perform at its maximum capacity.
  • Improve your dancing in any style and at any level, whether beginner or advanced.
  • Receive tips on partnering techniques to sustain quality movement.

    Instructor: Barry Douglas has been a dance teacher, choreographer, trainer, and coach for over 40 years. At age 12, he began his training with Performing Arts style, and included Ballroom, Latin, Rhythm, Smooth and Theater Arts. He is a professional member of the Swing Dance Association, The U.S. Hustle Hall of Fame, and the Dance Educators of America. He is a proud recipient of over 30 Swing and Hustle championships and titles in six states, won the National Hustle Championship, and has earned multiple regional Rhythm Championship titles.
